All terms and phrases are defined from within "Reiki Taught
in the Tradition of Usui," any practice that does not include
the following concepts or definitions is not the form of Reiki
that is taught and defined by the International Association of
Reiki. The Association recognizes that there are several forms
of Reiki that are taught in the world.
"Reiki Taught in the Tradition of Usui" is the phrase
that refers to the practice of Reiki as developed by Mikao Usui
and passed on through a form of teaching and practice that includes
initiation rites, the use of specific symbols, defined practice
and recognition of a specific spiritual lineage. This is not to
say that the association does not recognize other forms of teaching
Reiki. Rather it is declaring its form within the various systems
that are taught in world.
We have adopted the phrase "Reiki as Taught in the Tradition
of Usui" as the formal title for this system as defined by
the International Association of Reiki.
This practice of Reiki can be referred to as a way to promote
healing and harmony on many levels. It is a way of living on a
spiritual path and indicates the intent of practice in a manner
that allows its integration on all aspects, thus becoming a new
way of living. We further state that it is a way to deepen one's
spiritual harmony and does not replace one's own structured religion
or philosophical beliefs.
One's integrated path with the use of Reiki, as Taught in the
Tradition of Usui supports the individual's process with the following:
As one becomes reawakened, the use of self-treatment offers a
new way of thinking and feeling and can thus motivate right action
as it comforts and confirms that all life is a trusted process.
The individual's desires and choices guide the way of practicing
Reiki.
By adopting the Five Spiritual principles as your own you may
assist yourself in making clear choices which may serve as a moral
tapestry.
The Master-student relationship is one of a mentor and a teacher.
The Master provides the student with a very human and compassionate
companion. The student also becomes the motivation for the Master
to continue a journey into a deeper understanding of self and
an individual relationship to the world at large.

Terms
Reiki:
Reiki is a Japanese phrase that is defined as Universal Life
Giving energy. The International Association of Reiki, spol sr.o.
also holds that Reiki can be defined as Universal Unconditional
Love. We have no set definition as to the origin of the energy
and use the term God or the cosmos to denote that origin which
is best defined by the individual student. All people are entitled
to hold their own their religious beliefs and philosophy
Reiki Master:
A Reiki Master is a person who has received training and initiation
to teach first and second degree classes in Reiki in the Tradition
of Usui. This training, preparation and initiation as a Reiki
Master has come from a Reiki Master who has extensive life experience
in living and teaching Reiki as a Master in the spiritual lineage
of Reiki. This Master must be able to trace their lineage back
to Usui.
The Reiki Masters teaching in the Tradition of Usui continues
their studies in Reiki. This occurs through the pathway of mastery,
which unfolds in the development of the Master's practice that
occurs while teaching. And in the individual's experience of hands
on practice with others.
A Reiki Master teaching in the Tradition of Usui as defined by
this organization has completed the steps of commitment as outlined
by the International Association of Reiki. These include but are
not limited to: being initiated by a Reiki Master in the direct
spiritual lineage, personally practicing reiki on a daily basis,
living the five spiritual principles (the moral guide) and recognizing
the life long relationship with Reiki and the initiating master.
Initiating Master:
The initiating Master should be a practicing Reiki Master with
a minimum of 5 years experience, however it is recommended that
this time be more in alignment to the actual amount of clinical
work one is doing and would be more like 7-10 years teaching in
the Tradition of Usui. This master must be willing to be in a
lifelong committed direct relationship as a mentor, teacher and
initiator. It is this organizations belief that the road to Master
is also one gained by slow and steady growth. Also this organization
believes that this growth process allows the Master training to
be more aligned with the nature of Reiki which is organic, thus
the master takes the time to come more inside the work and have
direct ownership of the materials.
Grand Master / Spiritual Lineage Bearer:
The Grand Master is the individual who carries the spiritual
lineage of the Usui system of Reiki. The present Grand Master
is Phyllis Lei Furumoto. This organization recognizes the Grand
Master as Phyllis Lei Furumoto and respects her dedication and
commitment to Reiki as a whole.
The concept of the title Grand Master started in the Western
world. Sensi comes from the cultural context of Japan. This person
called Grand Master represents the energetic bloodline of an art
such as Reiki. The position is usually appointed or granted through
recognition by the present Grand Master and the community of masters
with in the defined art. In Japan, students and practitioners
who do not recognize the successor leave the defined form and
establish their own disciplines or schools. Often they begin their
journey by acknowledging their differences and honoring the training
by acknowledging their former teachers.

Aspects of the Form
The Aspects of Reiki Taught in the Tradition of Usui, as defined
by The International Association of Reiki are as follows:
Hands on Technique for Harmony
The practice of Reiki Taught in the Tradition of Usui is a hands
on technique. Reiki is transmitted through the therapist's hands
for self-treatment and the treatment of others.
The practitioner is an instrument for the energy of Reiki and
is not a healer; rather the people receiving the energy can be
said to be healing themselves by using the energy on the physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual levels. The result of receiving
Reiki is enhanced health and well being. This well being is an
acknowledgment of a move towards wholeness. Because we are all
human beings we can experience the emotional pain of feeling incomplete.
This is a judgment that we place upon ourselves, and this emotional
pain can also threaten us on the physical level. Once the person
has received Reiki energy the experience can be one of being healed
or beginning a healing process. Again we stipulate that it is
the person that is receiving that is doing the healing. The practitioner
is transmitting the energy and being a silent witness to the effects
of the energy only.
Deepening and growing of our Self Awareness
By giving and receiving Reiki as Taught in the Tradition of Usui
it stimulates a process of self-development that can bring about
a clearer sense of yourself and your relationship to your world.
It deepens self-love and brings you in to alignment with your
true self. This alignment process often uncovers emotional and
mental trauma that needs to be healed. As we become more aware
of this pain and release it with self-treatment we are then able
to make decisions not from the conditioned reactive mind rather
from a space of response. In doing this we also free ourselves
for repeating situations that cause disharmony and reaction. In
all cases the time that is required to move from reaction to response
varies upon the individual. It is a process not to be hurried,
but allowed to tenderly unfold.
Deepening of one's own Spirituality
Another aspect of Reiki as Taught in the Tradition of Usui is
the deepening of one's own spirituality. Our relationship to the
Creative Essence is greatly enhanced. We become aware of what
is truly sacred in our lives. Often this will provide a deepening
of owns religious philosophy. While we recognize all spiritual
practices we make no demand that anyone have a practicing faith.
Rather we acknowledge that the practice of Reiki deepens ones
own spirit. In living a spiritual life we acknowledge our relationship
with spirit and its presence in all things. The actual contact
to spirit is enhanced with the ritual of initiation and the acts
of self-treatment and the treatment of others. This practice brings
the experience into the physical world and in to us as humans
A Heart Centered Knowing
In a world that demands an explanation for everything, where
our lives abound with theory and ideas and to understand with
our minds is a comfort, Reiki as Taught in the Tradition of Usui
confronts the pure mystery of life. We move past the mind which
is often limited by our life's experiences into the realm of the
heart. To enter this realm requires surrender into the unknown.
The experience of surrender into the mysterious unknown often
puts into direct relationship to others whose foundation lies
in having common experiences rather than having common beliefs.
It is a realm where all people can be recognized and honored for
their unique qualities that they bring to the whole and all life
can be celebrated as the wonderful mystery that it is. We have
surrendered to this practice and into the desire for community
and brotherhood. We have removed the need to be individual and
separate and have reclaimed our right to be uniquely part of the
whole.

The Form
The form as defined by the International Association of Reiki
has been designed to bring the practitioner of Reiki as Taught
in the Tradition of Usui into a deeper relationship with the elements
and thus nurturing the individuals process of healing on many
levels.
Initiation
The process of initiation as performed by the Reiki Master within
the system of Reiki as Taught In the Tradition of Usui, results
in the capacity of the student initiated to transmit Reiki for
themselves and others. There are four energy centers that are
initiated for the first degree. One initiation for the second
degree, one initiation for the professional level, and one initiation
for the Master level.
The initiation is the sacred aspect of connecting with the divine
aspect of the Universal energy. As the Master performs the ritual,
students open to receive the experience of being in communion,
(at one with) the energy of Reiki, with the Master and with themselves.
The initiation process is an important aspect of the system as
defined by the International Association of Reiki, but does not
stand-alone. It is supported by the other elements of the form.
Forms of Classes
The classes are structured in such a way to uphold the simplicity
of the practice as defined by the association. There are two degrees
or levels of Reiki as Taught in the Tradition of Usui. These are
Reiki One and Reiki Two. There are further advanced levels leading
to the certification of Master. The steps are:The Path of Mastery-
Reiki Master/Teacher course is a 6 day intensive that prepares
you to have a more professional attitude. The course is designed
to again give you a deeper experience of yourself but also to
enable the practitioner to have better knowledge of the body and
how to conduct a practice of Reiki. The Path of Mastery which
gives the opportunity to teach levels one and two of Reiki, the
Initiating Masters level, initiating other Masters into the system
as defined by this association in a time that is supportive of
the student's coming into the form deeply. Majesty of Mastery
which is a year long mentoring program for Reiki Master Teachers
that have been in the practice a minimum of three years.
Contact with the Master
It is the association's belief that the tradition of Reiki is
an oral one and it is important that there be a direct contact
made with Master and student. With personal contact an energetic
transfer occurs. This exchange is important and happens through
the teaching form, the initiations, the give and take of communicating
which is supportive to both Master and student.
First Degree Reiki (Level One)
The first-degree class will be taught in the same way as defined
by the International Association of Reiki. We of course recognize
that the subtle flavor of the class will be different depending
on the Master's experience of teaching and their individual personality.
All Masters will be instructed in all forms used by this association
such as the standard one day form, a two day form and a form that
is like the original way Takata taught over 4 to five days for
2 to 3 hours each day. The merits of each will be fully discussed
and experienced in the Master training.
Second Degree (Level Two)
The second-degree class is offered to all students who have taken
Reiki one, and have committed to furthering their work with Reiki.
In the one-day format of Reiki two, there is no waiting period.
If a students wishes to take Reiki two the same weekend the association
advises that it will take more time to integrate the energy and
the work. Normally there is a natural waiting time of three months.

History
Although some aspects of the historical accuracy of the Reiki
methodology may be questioned, we focus upon the teaching aspects
of the story of Usui and may offer a synopsis of the events that
led to the discovery and the use of Reiki by Mikao Usui through
to Takata. This provides the context for sharing the spiritual
principles and insights the association feels holds the "essence"
of Reiki. This is important and necessary in the teaching of Reiki,
as Taught in the Tradition of Usui.
The Lineage Spiritual and Master
It is important to establish and sustain the spiritual lineage
of Reiki as Taught in the Tradition of Usui. The carrier of the
Spiritual Lineage embodies the spiritual essence of Reiki.
The Master lineage is the lineage from Usui to the student taking
the course. It is in essence your family tree of Reiki. The association
holds that in order to say that you are working within the Teaching
of the Tradition of Usui you must be able to trace your lineage
back to Usui.
The Five Spiritual Principles of Reiki
The five spiritual principle of Reiki has been handed down from
Usui and is part of the contact with the Master in an oral and
energetic exchange. The association recognizes that there are
various forms of the five spiritual principles and teaches the
following and offers also the original text from Mikao Usui's
tomb which is said like a prayer.
Just for Today, I will let go of Anger.
Just for Today, I will let go of Worry.
Today, I will count my many Blessings.
Today, I will do my work honestly.
Today, I will be Kind to every living creature.
Symbols
Symbols act as energetic keys that access levels of communication
with the self, others and the aspect that remains unknown in life.
While the symbols have a power of their own, it is the relationship
that is created by the use of the symbols that truly empowers
them. With the use of the symbols a deeper and more profound level
of healing can take place. The Masters task is to teach the symbols
in a clear and distinct manner and encourage the student to take
the time necessary both during and after the class to continue
to deepen their personal experience with them. It is the committed
practice of the student that will bring the gifts of awareness,
growth and healing.
It is also acknowledged that there are varieties of the symbols
within different forms of Reiki as it is taught. The symbols that
are taught by this association's masters are the same ones as
the founding Master of the International Association of Reiki
were taught by her master. It is the individual's understanding
and practice that empower the symbols.
Treatment
The basic order of the treatment practice is the daily treatment
of self, then others. While the association recognizes the need
to take Reiki in to a clinical application it is all ways stresses
that the harmony of the practitioner is most important This is
a spiritual system that is strengthened by self treatment. One
must never forget the self. There is a balance in all things.
The treatment procedure is applied with a lying of hands on the
body. It is always recommended that the body being treated be
treated fully with extra attention taken to the areas of discomfort.
It is in the experience of touching a body and feeling the energy
move and the inexplicable changes that occur immediately after
a treatment that move us back into the wonder in our lives. This
experience of wonder opens us to the mystery of life and the creation
of possibility for change and movement in ourselves and in others.
Exchange of Energy
The association recognizes the need in a spiritual sense for
there to be an ebb and flow in life and recommends that a fee
be set for the courses that are applicable to the economic conditions
of the country. It would be foolish to consider that a person
in New York of London would place the same value on a course as
one would in an underdeveloped country. There for it is suggested
that a fee be set in the manner of Like Value. For instance how
much does a pair of nice shoes cost in the US and how much does
a nice pair of shoes cost in Romania. Use this as a guideline
that will give the course the same feeling of value. In our changing
world it is not how much that is charged but rather what works
for the student and the Master. However there should be an exchange
of energy. Be aligned with the principle of exchange.
This would hold true for the person receiving a
treatment as well as receiving Reiki training. Money is an element
of energy and in exchanging energy people are more apt to place
a value on what they have received. However it is the associations
belief that the exchange can be other than money. Establishing
the exchange affords one the opportunity to work through the issues
of worth and value. This is in self is a growth experience.
