Taking Reiki from a Household Art to Professional Application, with a view of Energy Exchange for Treatment
Several years ago I developed a professional level course that is designed to bring Reiki from an art that is practiced in the home, to a clinical application. The course gives people more practical tools to use in the delivery of Reiki to people other than just friends and family.
Taking this step also brings the professional greater responsibility. This course is one that follows the nine month seminar, "Adventure into Self Discovery". It is my belief that to be a better practitioner of Reiki, one must discover and clear one's own reactive basis. To go deeper into yourself also means that you are more available to others. How much money does one charge to see clients in a clinical setting?. With this question arises the contention that Reiki is a spiritual therefore no money should be charged. We need to be clear about the theory of abundance and about our basic notions of abundance
There is a misconception regarding the principle of abundance, usually accompanied by a massive misjudgment about what is "good" and what is "evil." There are many people who carry around a thought that money is "bad", in fact it is said that money is the root of all evil. The other thought is that God or Spiritual practices are "good."
This is an interesting thought because it makes it difficult for people to take money for anything that is "good." If a thing is judged worthy by people, then it may well have less value in terms of money. So the better something is, the less money it is worth.
Our whole society believes this. Teachers and artists make a small amount of money while prize-fighters in many parts of the world, make fortunes. In fact in western countries sports figures make more money than the leaders of the country. Clergy live on bread and water while gold coins are thrown to entertainers.
Think about it, everything that people place a high intrinsic value on , they also insist must come cheaply. The lonely research scientist who is seeking a cure for AIDS begs for money, while the person who writes a book about hundreds of ways to have sex makes a fortune.
So the wrong thought is about money. People love it, and yet say it is the root of all evil. Money is adored, yet called filthy. People are said to be "filthy rich." Even when a person becomes wealthy doing "good" things, people become suspicious. The person is somehow made wrong. And the skewed thinking continues to the extreme that, for people to receive large amounts of money for what they do would mean that they would have to be doing something that they "do not" like to do, or be doing something that is "not" good! Many people decry what they do for a living, so getting paid for it is not a problem, within this system of thinking, they are taking bad for bad and that is "good." To further complicate matters, part of a person's psyche will reject money, and yet the other part will resent not having it,. Confusion reigns..
The universe does not know what to do to support the person going in opposite directions within. It has received two different thoughts regarding money and no clear focus. He is not really sure what is true for him. The universe is like a big copy machine. It will reproduce multiple copies of your thoughts. When you impose your thinking on others, this then becomes group consciousness. Money is "evil." Spiritual practices are "good." The two do not mix.
Thoughts validating lack of prevail in all things. Not having enough is a root thought. There is not enough money, not enough time, not enough love, there is not enough food, water , compassion in the world. Whatever there is that is considered GOOD there is just not enough of. The whole human race has this consciousness of "Not- enough-ness," but root thought can be changed. There are ways of seeing and experiencing abundance in a supportive manner. Thoughts can be changed. People can feel supported by their work, be paid for their time doing what they love to do, what they consider to be Good in this world. First people must consider that they are good and in this goodness they have value. So that when people ask me about cost for Reiki training and / or sessions, I like to know that they understand these basic notions. There is no charge for the energy of Reiki. Rather a charge or an exchange of energy is asked for the time of the therapist. All people have a value. I can not imagine that you would work in a job with out pay. Or, would you?
Reiki can help with this process. In advanced Reiki practice, the energy works very deeply on the emotional and mental causes of disharmony.
It become clear how important it is to take the time to come into harmony with one's self and one's issues in life. Knowing self with Reiki is indeed important. All life reflects you. The process of coming into harmony addresses your thoughts and emotions. You life is challenged, and in this ideas you have about yourself and the world change.
Money is a big issue for most people. Being paid or paying for something good is sometimes an even bigger issue especially within the context of Reiki. We all have value. We all deserve to be co- creators in a process of harmony. Both the therapist and a recipient are exchanging energy. They enroll in active collaboration. The recipient of the Reiki energy can demonstrate this by paying for the time. The treatment then has more value to them.
When a therapist charges for time she is also stating that the she has a value. This then becomes a reflective opportunity for both the therapist and the person receiving the energy. Both have value and both are good.
