A Hope for the Future
In the world wide Reiki community, we are experiencing
vast differences in the teaching of form and philosophy. Due
in part to the personal interpretation of the oral history of
the Usui System, Masters have added or subtracted details at
whim or will or with genuine intention. Added to the situation
are new books and newly uncovered facts or the sharing of personal
guidance and interpretations of hand positions, treatment procedures,
and history.
How can we hope to find a true path together with
so many different 'kinds' of Reiki?
At a gathering in Wichita, Kansas, USA in the summer
of 1998, I proposed we seek HARMONY among all practitioners and
Masters. By using this word as an acronym, I offered these thoughts:
HONORING our own path and process with Reiki also
invites us to honor the same for others. We each have sought a
method by which to bring healing to ourselves and others. No matter
how the technique has been taught, our Usui System of Natural
Healing came onto the earth plane with the "heightened awareness"
of one man, Makao Usui. He gave root to this method and honoring
him can be our starting point.
Allowing time for each of us to share what AGREEMENTS
we can make about living in the light of Reiki gives us an opportunity
to share our stories. There are many different points we can find
that are in tune - ideals perhaps, or hope, techniques or hand
positions. We can begin to list those elements we can agree on
rather than those points on which we each think we have the only
truth.
It's time we each became responsible for our own
understanding of Reiki in our lives and our relationship to it.
It is time for us to take RESPONSIBILITY for any changes we have
made; to own them as ours when we teach.
When we stand in the light of Reiki, we are given
the gift of experiencing MIND-FULNESS, that unselfconscious attention
to our moment to moment existence. In this space, we are just
doing what we asked to be taught to do. This mindfulness allows
that, as we are doing just this, we are in harmony with all things,
and especially each other.
When we can stand in this mindfulness, not just
in our practice of Reiki, but also in our lives, we can experience
ONENESS, which dissolved differences.
NOURISHING ourselves daily with Reiki can help us
choose those actions which will bring nourishment to our system
as a whole so that others will feel open to joining us.
Why? Why not ! If and when we can stand in harmony
with each other, we can more easily stand in quietness in our
places on the web of life so as to promote harmony in our lives,
our families, and not just in our Reiki World, but in our Earth
bound world as well.
