The Sum
Total of us is that Which we are in this Moment
Not long ago Tomas, a student of mine came to talk
with me. He wanted have a discussion about a decision he was making
to become a Catholic priest. I asked him what brought him to this
decision especially so late in his life. His reply was that he
had recently found aspects of himself that were like the bad character
traits of his Father, Mother and Brother. He wanted to rid himself
of these and felt the only way was to remove his self from society
and pray. Immediately I was given a picture of something to share
with him.
This is a recipe for soup that we call Tomas.
Fill a large pot with water. The water represents the light or
soul of you. The next ingredient is the base flavoring, from your
parents, as they were active in your creation. We now have your
initial basis or the stock of your soup to build on. To this we
will add the spices. Your brother, Grandparents, friends and all
the events of your life are these ingredients. Everything has
gone into the creation of that which you are in this moment. You
can not remove an ingredient. It is part of the soup. However,
you can change the flavor and make it taste better by the addition
of new ingredients. If you have too much salt in the soup you
can add a potato to take the salt away. What in your life could
this potato represent in a way to balance out the flavor-? What
do you suppose needs to be added for you to come into harmony
with your basic ingredients? I continued by saying that one new
ingredient could be for him to enter a monastery. However if entering
a monastery is a form of running he must remember that he takes
his soup with him wherever he goes. He still must deal with what
he has created.
Rather than be upset with his soup, one step could be to honor
all the ingredients he has added. He looked into my eyes and smiled.
He understood. I felt touched by our interaction and the picture
I had been given to paint such a profound spiritual truth for
him to understand. We are indeed the sum total of that which we
are in this moment.
I honor all my ingredients and look forward to any changes to
make it taste better in my future. Reiki helps me to honor all
the aspects that make up my whole. Daily self-treatments are the
spice that I add to my soup that keeps it "me" in harmony.
In the center we find love and in the center is Reiki.
Love, Mari
